They need old cherry wood for their development, and such places are becoming fewer and fewer.<\/p><p>There are several reasons, but surprisingly, humans cause a lot of it.<\/p><p>The current method of intensive fruit farming is more interested in young, low-statured modern fruit trees. As soon as these stop yielding a sufficient harvest, they are immediately replaced by new specimens.\u00a0<\/p><p>Farmers are not interested in old trees and old varieties. Old trees bear little fruit and require more care. Furthermore, old varieties of fruit trees create high crowns, making the fruit more difficult to harvest. For this reason, today's production orchards are mostly just tree stumps from which fruit is extracted\u2026\u00a0<\/p><p>Fruit growers focus primarily on profit to succeed in competition. Yes, they have it tough, but is nature entirely to blame? Therefore, they don't even consider the important effect of large fruit tree canopies, which create shade and prevent the soil beneath them from drying out, etc. Furthermore, in partial shade, honey-producing plants grow, which are favoured by the delicate palates of insects - not just bumblebees.<\/p><p>Fortunately, there are still areas with old trees and people who care for them. There aren't many of them, but meeting them is always a balm to the soul.<\/p><p>One such place is precisely this beautiful old cherry orchard. Mrs. Jana, a true enthusiast, is dedicatedly working towards its preservation, as is the landowner. We take our hats off to their courage and will with which they've embarked on this, because there is and will continue to be a great deal of work involved.\u00a0<\/p><p>The striped bumblebee, a species on the verge of extinction in our country, used to be found in Netluck\u00e1 t\u0159e\u0161\u0148ovka for a long time. However, its numbers have significantly worsened over the last 10 years. The last recorded occurrence was about 4-5 years ago, but another rare species, the large earth bumblebee (Bombus ruderatus), is still found here today. Therefore, it is not impossible that both species are still surviving here, but their populations are on the brink of extinction. By sowing suitable plants, we would like to help these local populations to develop again.<\/p><p>That's why on Saturday<strong> 4\/11\/2023<\/strong> They met in T\u0159e\u0161\u0148ovka and discussed possibilities for cooperation. Not only so that the beautiful cherry blossoms could flourish there, but also so that rare species of bumblebees, which used to be found there, would return to this place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>The meeting was very pleasant, with great scope for collaboration. If everything goes to plan, we'll get started this year and if it goes even better... well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, everything is only just beginning.<\/p><p>We would be happy to involve your capable and hardworking hands in our planned planting of nectar-rich plants on the land. They do particularly well, especially in the lower, moister parts. They are even flowering now in November. We also want to focus on dead-nettles. Likewise, it should be a place for people and nature to meet.<br \/>Keep your fingers crossed for us, there will be a lot of work involved, but we are looking forward to it. We have references and experience that we are happy to offer, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmelaciplus.cz\/en\/csob-biodiversity-project-prague-radlice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u010cSOB Biodiversity Support Project in Prague, Radlice<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5104a8d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5104a8d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>25\/11\/2023<\/strong><\/p><p>This is what we got up to today, sowing nectar-rich plants in the cherry orchard in Prague Uh\u0159\u00edn\u011bves \u2013 Netluky.<\/p><p>Unfortunately, the cold weather put a lot of people off, but thankfully not all of them. Jana, Jarom\u00edr, Jirka, Jakub and Ondra. These are the names of 5 brave souls who weren't intimidated and went for it.<\/p><p>Together, we used a strimmer to thoroughly cut the grass between the trees down to the roots. Then we raked up the mulch by hand. Kuba then sowed seeds of red campion, clover, and bird's-foot trefoil in these prepared areas.<\/p><p>We've chosen just a few spots to show the difference between reseeded and not reseeded. The area of the plot is such that it would require a lot more people to help us with this. In fact, they can help us right away in the spring!<\/p><p>We were lucky with the weather. It only started snowing when we were leaving.<\/p><p>The late autumn sowing was mainly dedicated to cockerels, which we sowed at the eleventh hour. We will sew the other plants in the spring.<\/p><p>Thanks to Bumblebee Breeding for the seed delivery!<\/p><p>There weren't many of us there today. Even so, we got a lot of work done and made a good team.\u00a0<\/p><p>In the spring, you can join our ranks. Besides reseeding, we will be clearing the areas between the trees of saplings, fallen branches, etc. As a special treat and an attraction, we can promise catering by Lucky or P\u00e9\u0165a.<\/p><p>We mowed approximately 300 m2 between trees, where we mostly saw larkspur. Further on, partly in strips that are mown mechanically, there was mainly clover.<\/p><p>Thanks again to today's brave souls!
