About the project
For some time now, my neighbours and I have been observing the grass management taking place on the green spaces around our homes.
But then we said to ourselves that it's better to roll up our sleeves and get to work than to watch it.
You'll find out how it went, what went well, and what didn't go so well, on this (not just) neighbourhood blog.
Oh.

Project objectives
What is our goal? It's not about the project itself, but nevertheless we have set ourselves The following aims:
- Support biodiversity in the vicinity of Farkán
- To illustrate how mosaic mowing and appropriate reseeding can create a diverse meadow for pollinators, even in urban areas.
- Create stepping stones for insect dispersal from ČSOB Radlice Garden, Waltrovka Park, Vidoule and Prokopské údolí
- To take advantage of what Bumblebees PLUS are doing with ČSOB and apply it in our immediate surroundings
How do we want to do it?
- We won't just say what's wrong – we'll roll up our sleeves and get to work ourselves.
- We will leverage the interest and capabilities of our neighbours.
- We will be cooperating with Prague 5 Municipal District – Department of Public Space and Greenery Management.
- Our goal is to adjust mowing plans in our area with the local council, so that mowing is done as needed, not according to a calendar.
- We want to lead by example and involve others.
The areas that we have included in the project
1. Playground neighbourhood
The area is managed by the local district of Prague 5.
Area: 720 m²

2. The tip of the kurt
This area is managed by the local district council, MČP5. Part of it is privately owned – the owner does not wish for the area to be maintained as a whole, or rather, they impose conditions that are unacceptable to us as neighbours.

3. Na Farkáně Square

Before winter, the grass needs to be mown and cleared. So, let's get to it! Above all, rake well to catch the foxglove seeds.

How to warm up in autumn? By using a nicely revved up lawnmower on a hill, of course.

We are discussing with the Municipal District Council of Prague 5 how we will maintain the areas this year.
The plan is to mark out what will be mown and determine when. We are also trying to include the nearby Waltrovka Park in this scheme.
Keep your fingers crossed for us that it works out!

Plants of yellow rattle are appearing on the grassland. We sowed it in autumn – it needs to go through frost. In spring, it only has a short chance to attach itself to grass roots in time. This year is tough for it – it's terribly dry. But from the look of things, at least some of the seeds will make it.
You can see what it looks like when a poppy germinates and then flowers in the following text.

Witches' Eve is approaching. Ondra and Alice are preparing signs so that the delicate little plants that are waking up don't get trampled.
