Bumblebee breeding in the garden of Úhonice Elementary School

Bumblebee breeding for elementary school and kindergarten Úhonice

  • From 2021 We provide bumblebee breeding in cooperation with the school management.

    Úhonice Elementary School and Kindergarten

  • In 2021, the rock bumblebee was successfully bred here, and 2022 was successfully completed with the breeding of the meadow bumblebee.
  • In 2023, not only we, but also the children, will hope for a return and self-establishment of the hive. The meadow bumblebee is an ideal species for schools, because by the end of the school year, children will have time to learn most of the life cycle.
  • The breeding takes place in a hive of our own production (instructions are available here) . Excellent thermal insulation allowed the hive to be placed in the school's front garden, where it is visible not only to children, but also to visitors and parents of the school.
  • Through breeding, we promote and educate not only about the life of bumblebees, but also the importance of protecting the areas that provide them with food.
  • The school itself, with the help of parents and children, significantly transformed the garden last year. A number of environmental elements have been added, the original drab garden has been enriched with an adventure trail, an insect house, an herb garden, and a meadow is planned in place of the original lawn and water features that will be used not only by children. The entire garden is thus undergoing a gradual transformation towards ecological education for children, where our bumblebees are a suitable addition.
  • Our project is a long-term event that we are able to expand with other activities according to the needs and requirements of the school.
