Introduction
Lukáš gave us a very interesting tip for using ground screw like a standing frame for a scarecrow. We described low stands in the chapter Ulcer location in the garden.
Within Čmelák Plus, we try to recommend only what we have tested, so I went out to buy this thing and try it out for myself. We have also made a small guide for those of you which is better than the description.
Parts for the stand can be found on the internet as Ground screw. If you go to a hobby market, you can also get it there and have a feel of it. They sell them in the garden section, where they have various fittings for fences.
I discovered a ground screw in a large DIY store, and a fitting part to go with it beam anchoring. From these parts, I made a sturdy stand for the scarecrow.
It doesn't matter that the stand is robust – the scare is quite heavy, It shouldn't sway or tremble. The stand must into withstand handling and maintenance of the hive, as it should also be possibleProtect against ants.
In our photo tutorial, we share several solutions for attaching a feeder to a stand and protecting it from ants.
- The shock is firmly fixed using bolts and nuts – protection proto mravencům (lepivá vrstva) je pak on the ground screw
- The scare is built upon a plank, which is attached to a ground screw – protection solution for ants (sticky layer) such as discs with a sticky material into which the decoy is placed
There are more variants, we have found these to be effective in practice. The second option is suitable for severe shock. - this won't fall off the mat. Thanks to this solution, you can frighten well Set to horizontal, or alternatively it náklon vpřed at the moment when the small worker bees are unable to manage the procession through the flap.
If you use this solution, your shock will be in safe height of approximately 30-40 cm above the ground (depending on how deep it is screwed in) protected against ants, small rodents and domestic pets. It will also be less exposed. spring ground frost.
This solution Suitable for self-tapping nuts. Fright can you First, leave it on the ground. Once the queen bee is settled and begins to reliably return, You move the shock absorber to the ground screw stand..
This is the best carry out in the dark – close the entrance hole. Then move the brood and open the entrance hole in the morning. The queen will then emerge and do Orientation flight. At that moment, Do not disturb. The mother then begins to return and continue with the construction of the work.
A shock on the ground screw then gives me a better chance of not being found by other mothers looking for nesting sites on the ground.
Procedure for Installing the nutwhat you find HERE.
If a hurricane similar to the one that was Sabine in February 2020, the fear attached to the stand of the wind holds well. He just needs load the roof or a roof to be properly secured. A scarecrow on a base of screws can easily tip over and break the nest within if the scarecrow is not properly weighted down. This is especially true for small and light scarecrows.

How to make a ground screw stand?
Everything is fine to assemble from parts bought in a DIY store, we will describe how using an example in the instructions. The advantage is good protection with zinc plating, so you don't have to bother with any coating etc.
The solution, of course, is more and The solution can be adapted to your DIY capabilities.. So, take this example as a verified solution but also as inspiration.
Proceed
- Go and buy it at the hobby market earth footing and its associated bracket for securing a beam,
- Select the pieces that match they fit and you won't have to modify them much = you can try them on there,
- A specific bracket from our manual can also be used as a parasol holder, which is why it's fitted with a welded nut. However, if you choose a suitable position, the nut won't be in the way.,
- Join both parts screws with the nut together so that they are firmly connected and the impact is on them stable,
- Make a mount for the hive on the stand. It should be secure, but also easy to take apart. You’ll be glad you did if you ever need to move the hive indoors.
- In the given example, I attached to the ulcer beams of strong laths. I used long screws for the walls (they might not be long enough for the bottom).
- I epoxied tall nuts (M6 extension nuts) into this, so the housing is attached to the stand with screws, making it easy to disassemble. It would be possible to use appropriately sized socket head nuts, but better safe than sorry…
- It can also be used
– larger threaded inserts for wood, holds very well (tested M8x13)
– heavy-duty screws (with a hexagonal head). However, their strength will decrease over time because their thread in the wood will wear away. - Likewise, you can attach the board to the stand a to ji může leknout. To se suitable for heavier lures, that does not match the wind
- The photographs also show a possible solution for ant protection. It consists of a sticky tape from Chemstop (directly on the ground screw) and is protected by a cone made from a PET bottle. Due to the small space between the cone and the stand, bumblebees will not get trapped here.
You can, of course, choose a different solution, for example, use a cup instead of a cone and seal the bottom before filling it with non-edible oil. - If you have a fright on a board, use Mischief with adhesive material
Installation
- Please choose A place for a fright,
- Using a lever Screw in the earth screw. If necessary, look for a place where the drill can be used (large stones and strong roots are a problem).
- Level the stand (use a spirit level)
- Screw in the whole screw up to the conical part,
- Attention – the duck must hold on tight and it must not sway and must be set up horizontally!
- Put a frill on the frighten and attach it to her,
- Attach the cap to the ground screw and fasten it with screws
- If you have a board attached with n screws, can it be used for screwing in?
- Rotate the shock absorber to the required orientation
- Check that the hinge is not wobbly and is truly stable.
- To scare ant protection.
- AND IT IS DONE!

If you have enough a severe fright and are you not afraid of fallingand don't mount it on a stand, but Place on the board. This must be strong enough and well-attached to the base. Then you place the decoy on the board – into the bowl with sticky material.
If you fix the bowls to the board with screws, the shock absorber will stand well and will not move.

If you mount the decoy on bolt legs, you can then easily balance Do horizontal planes. You can also to underlay the back legs of the hive at the moment when the small The female workers cannot manage to open the flap. Tilting the ulcer will make the flap easier to open. However, this should not be a permanent solution.
Don't forget to addressant trap during the season check. This solution is safe, the bumblebees will not get stuck. However, you can make just a strip of glue around the perimeter of the base. There is a risk, however, that some bumblebee might get tangled up in it...

Ant protection can also be dealt with in this way, for example, but it is a significantly more complex solution.

For the whole solution to be functional, Level the chassis – in both directions. A spirit level, or a plate with water, would be useful for this.
